Organic Lawn and Garden Products
At The Feed Barn, our preference is for the customer’s interaction with the outdoor environment is, above all else, healthy. Hence our rallying under the natural and organic banner. What we mean is that we want you to be able to nurture the soil and the plants in it without having to resort to wearing gloves and dust masks as you tend to things around the yard. There are plenty of materials that you can apply by yourself that nourish and strengthen the soil plus the growing things in the soil and still allow barefoot children and barefoot pets to romp through your work, which are as or more effective then chemical manufactured chemical products. The point being that you can have a beautiful lawn and garden without putting you or your family at risk. . Our catalog provides products which will help accomplish these goals. Our site is continually "under construction," as we keep adding products from our store to our on line catalog. Hopefully, when Organic Jimmy has the time, he will be publishing helpful hints, facts, and fiction that just might be of interest to anyone with dirt under their fingernails. Organic (Natural) Fertilizers and soil amendments We buy most of these products in 50lbs. bags but are always willing to sell the amount you need for the task at hand. The pricing will be given as a per/lbs price for small quantities and in 25lbs.and 50lbs. bag sizes. Where it is measurable, the standard nutrient analysis will be listed9this may vary slightly depending on suppliers). The nutrient analysis reads as follows: the first number represents nitrogen; the second number is phosphorous; and the third number shows potassium, ie. 4-2-4 is 4% nitrogen by volume, 2% phosphorous by volume, and 4% potassium by volume. It might make it easier to remember this rule of thumb: nitrogen nourishes mainly foliage, phosphorous enhances fruit and flowers, and potassium works mainly on the roots. Some of these products are soil amendments and not fertilizers in the major nutrient sense of the word. They have beneficial effects on the soil and plants by adding micro-nutrients and/ or by changing the chemical structure of the soil. Over time, this will create a more hospitable environment for the seeds you sow, or the plants you set out. The liquid fertilizers may be mixed with water and used when watering your plants. They may also be used as a foliar spray (sprayed on the leaves). This method results in a more rapid uptake of the nutrients through the plants pores. Liquid fertilizers are not meant to replace a good program of feeding your soil, but will enhance your plants health and production to an obvious and satisfying degree. Following are the liquid and dry fertilizers, plus soil amendments we particularly appreciate. We’ve found them to be just the thing to have on hand for keeping your garden healthy and productive.
